Bonjour, Paris!

More on Flickr.

If you head into the archives of my flickr account, back almost 2 years, you will recall that I visited Germany in January 2008 and during my visit to Germany, I made a trip to Paris. My time there was so short. I got the opportunity to see Versailles and the Louvre, but I was left wanting to see way more of Paris. When I knew that I’d be in Rome for the semester, I decided I had to find myself at least one opportunity to get back to Paris. Lucky for me, the lovely Robin and Larry spend their Thanksgiving in Paris every year and they invited me for a visit! It was the first flight I booked and truthfully, the trip was put at the back of my mind because of all of the other things I knew I would be doing before then.

As the time approached, though, I felt myself getting more and more excited — not only would I get to see Paris again, but I would also get to spend time with Robin and Larry. I knew that if I couldn’t be with my family in Pennsylvania on Thanksgiving, that being around my family from Texas in Paris would be a great substitution. Paris captured my heart. It is so beautiful and all of the people that I came into contact with treated me with such kindness.

The highlights of my trip included: the Rodin Museum, going from the Rodin Museum to the Louvre, a 6-course French meal complete with wines and wonderful company, going to Notre Dame on a wonderfully sunny day (which had the most beautiful effect on the stained glass), standing outside of The Two Windmills (the cafe that Amelie works in!), climbing the stairs of the Sacre Coeur and finding the view at the top, buying 2 baguettes, brie cheese, a macaron and a coca cola and eating them while sitting in front of the Eiffel Tower, taking a walk through the Père Lachaise Cemetery at dusk, climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower at night and seeing its wonderful light show, eating a crepe with dark chocolate, looking at all the wonderful things that a Parisian Brocant offers, strolling along the Champs-Élysées, buying a warm waffle with Nutella on top from the Christmas market on the Champs-Élysées, seeing Christmas decorations, and eating my last meal in Paris in the company of wonderful people yet again.

This week is my last full week of classes, Friday I head to England to visit my family again and next week marks my last full week in Rome and 3 final exams. Lots going on…I’ll try to make a few more posts!
