ABOUT

I think the desire to photograph is in my blood and always has been. Both of my parents were trained in photography in the United States Navy and have continued to allow photography to have a presence in their lives. I remember the first time I took my point and shoot digital camera out to take photos — I was in 8th or 9th grade. It had just rained at my house and pink petals from the trees in our yard covered the driveway. A few years later, I took a darkroom photography course in high school and that’s when it officially hit me that taking photos was a genuine and constantly growing passion.

In the spring of 2007, I decided to take a year off of my 4-year college path to pursue my interest in photography more seriously. I worked my way up from assistant to photographer at a portrait studio and trained with a wedding photographer on the weekends. Of course, I’ve also been making any willing person pose in my photos. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about this field it’s that the best way to learn is to get your hands dirty and dig in. Now, I’ve graduated from Temple University with a BA in Art History and I’m ready to work with both of my passions – art history and photography. I hope you enjoy my work. I love taking photos and I hope that’s what people get from working with me. Many thanks to my parents for supporting me in my adventure over the past few years. And to all my friends and family members who have stood in for a photo or two. Photos by Alex Gergar
